Panels And Paint

By Stephen Latchford

December 2015

Having got the rear end under control my next task was the bodywork and the paint.

I obtained the paint code for the RX from my dealer - which is MS if that helps. I then rang round and searched the net to see if anyone could supply me with the correct colour but I was unsuccessful. The code wasn't in any database yet, after all it is still a new model. However a local paint company was willing to mix up a batch for me by copying the colour from my damaged mudguard. They supplied it in an aerosol for me and I have to say they did a great colour match. Thanks IAS Body Supplies of Manchester.

I repaired my mudguard by grinding a 'v' all the way along the crack and filled it front and back with a product called Q Bond, a great product I have used many times. Then it was just a case of rubbing down, filling and priming etc. before spraying with my new paint. I then finished off with Matt lacquer.

Great stuff.

The finished mudguard back on the bike and looking like newAll complete and you'd never know.

The rear bodywork only needed a quick rub down and de grease before applying primer then base coat, here they are drying in my garage after being sprayed with the silver base coat.

Then after a couple of days it was time for the decals then a couple of coats of lacquer.

It looks like new!

Buying The Bent Bike Stephen receives his broken and bent Striple RX and starts the process of fixing that which can be fixed and replacing the rest. It's not all plain sailing.
Sorting The Rear End Stephen does battle with the rear end of the Street Triple RX. There's drills, there's new and used parts and there's a steep learning curve about how it all fits together
Panels And Paint Stephen's attention has now turned to sorting out the pretty bits. The mudgaurd needs a repair and paint, the Daytona rear panels are the wrong colour and no-one stocks the right colour!
Bent Wheel And Discs Stephen is absolutely mortified to find out the front wheel and left hand disc are bent due to the accident. This could get expensive, REAL expensive. Luckily Stephen found expert help.
The Finishing Touches Stephen's on the home stretch now with the Street Triple RX salvage operation. There's some images of the completed bike looking pristine and perfect.

That Q-bond looks like good stuff. I've used JB weld quite a lot but it does take 24 hourse to set. Is Q-bond an eopxy?

Coming on well by the way.

No not an epoxy, just powder and glue. The powder seems to reinforce the glue, rather like the stone in concrete. And this stuff is ready to work on in seconds.
