Lots Of Fun And Lots Of Sun

Days 9 - 15....maybe. I'm losing count.

By Upt' North

Yes, we had enjoyed a day or two off The B and it'd been checked over. All good and whilst lubeing the chain I noticed one o-ring had made a bid for freedom. The rest looked OK so it was well lubed and forgot about. For now... I mean who'd ever heard of a chain falling apart?

I think we started to get restless around day 3 or 4 and decided on a day ride to Paestum. It was up the coast a way and would make a pleasant enough journey and we'd probably have a mooch about as well. The day was probably going to get near to 100 of your f's, time to take the linings out.

Paestum dates back to about 600 BC, so it's old. Not as old as Ian (sorry Ian) but old. It was an ancient Greek city on the West Coast before the Romans turned up.

Coffee was taken locally and a spot of lunch before we had that mooch about on The B. This is just inland from where we were staying. Some lovely but tight roads to get up here.

Now, I said earlier that we didn't really know how far we'd go south, but there was an itch to scratch and that itch was Sicily. It just wouldn't stop itching. So after 5 nights we left Castellabate 2 days early to head for the port and an overnight before crossing over to Sicilia.

It was a hot ride down, full sun and I think the bike was reading 35 of those c's whilst moving which in good old imperial is f'in hot.

The port town was only memorable for the Cannoli's and the drunks. We had already booked the ticket online on the advice of a Castellabation. What could go wrong? The next morning we were down to the port and got ready to float over to Sicily. I had my email reply from the ferry agent and was looking forward to the short ferry over to Messina.

I mean, really, what could go wrong? Er'Indoors is sitting in the shade. It was 90 plus just after breakfast.

From Coal To Dole These notes from the road provide a concise review of Upt's first 4 days of his European excursion. He makes it all sound so easy!
Form Dole To A Hole That's Closed Things don't go quite as planned for Upt' today but don't panic - all's well that ends well.
There's Drivers From Hell And Doggy Smell More random notes from Upt's road trip through Italy. There's a brief romance of the Canine kind and an opinion piece covering Italian driving. Suffice to say Upt's opinion ain't favourable.
Lots Of Fun And Lots Of Sun Upt' is enjoying the weather but keeps on asking "what could go wrong?". There's a sense of foreshadowing, or is he leading us a merry dance?
Could Etna Be Any Better? Save for a very minor ticketing issue Upt' and Er'Indoors remain blessed with sunshine, idyllic scenery, delightful food and fabulous roads. Some folks have all the luck eh?

Even I do not have the rest of Upt's musings as yet Bogger - and I too can't help but feel he's foreshadowing...

However - I fear this may be a ruse and the rest of his trip is going to be a sun filled extravaganza of wonder and beauty and awe. We shall just have to wait and see won't we. The tension is killing me.
