Just take a brief moment to look at this picture.

It's just a bridge. Some trees without leaves, I guess it must be winter. The sun behind the trees, a nice day in winter huh? What a great day for a ride.

Look again.

And again.

Do you see it? There's a biker coming over the bridge. There is you know. He or she has their headlights on you know. Now, I've been riding motorcycles for years, I've been driving cars too. I know about motorcycles and how hard they are to see. I like to take my time at junctions. But when I first saw this picture I wondered why the Think! people wanted to show us a bridge? Yeah, great, it's a bridge. I saw the skid marks on the road long before I saw the biker. Several moments too long before I saw the biker. 

That's one biker splatted into the side of my car or knocking me off my bike. Holy cow.

I'm sure the Think! people have chosen a particularly extreme image. I'm sure a lot of SMIDSY (Sorry Mate I Didn't See You) accidents are caused by a lack of effort and concentration rather than camoflage bikers. But the image really brings into focus JUST how hard we are to see and just how much we can help ourselves with bright helmets, clothing, road position and education.
