Jollies to J&S - Oct 2013

The rather mild weather as Autumn approaches means I get to have some more fun days out on my bike.

Today I am off to J&S www.jsaccessories.co.uk I need some winter gloves and a new helmet.  I would also like...oh lets see, some shorty boots, kevlar jeans and cargo pants. Oh and a sexy leather two piece. Hmmm yes please. But finances are err tight to say the least at the moment so I best concentrate on the essentials but no harm in looking is there?

Today I will be going with the bf, Rick, Kath and Jeanette. Jeanette is only a little person like me and she has been a huge inspiration for me that little girls can indeed ride. So I am really looking forward to having a ride with her.

We ride first to Jeanette's house to help her get her bike out. Now it is a bit of an ongoing joke about the state of Jeanette's back passage. It is reportedly rough as hell and no one in the right mind wants to go there. Well today I will get to see it for myself.

On arrival at Jeanette's house I turn into her back passage and stop my bike dead. Yes all the horror stories are true...there is no way I am going down there!!! Let me make this all a bit clearer for you. Jeanette lives in a terrace house so to access her bike she has to use the back passage. Now this is no ordinary back passage, it is more like someone once had an idea of throwing some rubble and a bit of tarmac down, stirred it up to make it as uneven as possible, left a few holes and gave it a camber that no short legs are going to cope with. So it is a bikers nightmare. Even more so if you have got little legs like me and Jeanette.

So the bf in hero mode releases Jeanette's bike from its confines and soon enough Rick and Kath arrive and we are all off.

It is a dry day and Ren takes us on a pleasant route to the shop. It feels good to be out riding with my friends and my riding is beginning to feel much more controlled and easier. Trouble is because I am feeling so much better over confidence now becomes the enemy. I see a bend and I convince myself I do not have to be a wimp any more and slow right down ... err WRONG. I end up slightly out of control and I swing wide onto the wrong side of the road. Luckily for me there is no traffic approaching so I get away with my over enthusiasm this time. But I scare myself and I give myself a good talking to. It is so hard when learning to get the balance right. To know where the line is between too slow and too fast. To know how far to push yourself and your bike without it ending up in a disaster. If I don't test myself, my bike and my skills then I will never get any faster or more skilled. But if I push too far too soon I could scare myself or hurt myself so bad that it will be the end of biking for me. How do you know the tipping point until you tip? Urgh complicated stuff this biking malarkey!!

The rest of the ride goes smoothly enough and though I feel a little apprehensive when we approach the J&S car park I park up no problem at all.

I look around the shop but find nothing that suits my needs. It is a huge place is J&S with lots and lots of stuff but sometimes lots of stuff does not mean there will be the one thing you are looking for. I do try on a rather lovely leather jacket. It is so soft and comfy, it fits a treat but it is way over my budget and after walking around in it for a while and strolling past the mirror several times I eventually pat it goodbye and hang it up. Rick is more successful and gets himself some new boots. Or rather his lovely wife Kath does. She spoils that man she does.

We have a look at some of the bikes and once again I spy a Ninja 300. I really think that this may be a future bike for me, if I keep going and improving that is.

Maybe one day?

The ride home goes smoothly and despite my little scare I am feeling a lot more confident in my riding today. Today has been a great day. Yes I over egged the pudding at one point but the rest of the day just added to my confidence. Really enjoyed it...happy biker :-)
