CBF 125 Side Stand Switch...Sorry Honda

Blog Date - 22 March 2013

I fear I may owe Honda an apology.  I've not been cruel to them here online but personally to myself I've been cursing them for fitting a sub-standard side stand switch to my CBF 125.  It's only lasted 3 and a half years and done 12,000 miles.  That's terrible that is, surely?

I removed the switch this morning, with a view to maybe bodging it.  This is what I saw...

CBF 125 side stand switch with grind damage

Now...how this happened is a mystery.  I know for sure the bike's been down the road a few times, there's bent bodywork lugs, patched plastics and aftermarket decals.  But what I can't see is how the side stand switch got ground out like this.  Unless the bike ran along a kerb or something it makes no sense.

But in fairness to Honda I can't really expect a switch with it's internal electrical contacts exposed to the elements to work very well.  In fact I'm surprised they've lasted at least the 6,000 miles I've done on the bike myself.  Anyhow...I've ordered a new second hand one for £15.  I can't forgive Honda's price of over £100 for a new one...
