Honda Recall The NC 700 X

Blog Date - 01 October 2012

OH NO!  The bike I've been dreaming of, the bike of my future, the Honda NC 700 X (I want the S really) is subject to a recall.  Fear not my faithful friends, so far this appears not to be Honda's fault but a supplier, RK Chains.  The story goes that some of the Chains RK have supplied were not up to the mark and a few of them have failed.

Anyhow...if you know of anyone who's got the NC 700 range of bikes it might be prudent to point them back to their dealer to see if their machine is affected or not.  From what I can see on the net it's the "X" models but I think I'd still go and ask the question if there was any doubt.

These things happen, what marks a company out is what they do about them.  I'd welcome anyone's experience if they have been subject to this recall.  It doesn't put me off the bike, if the engines were falling out or breaking down I might be peturbed, but chains are easily replaced and these should be replaced by the dealers.

I'm on the "S" model, in Canada, and as of Oct.5 the recall hasn't been done yet. The dealer did tell me about it when I brought my bike in for the 1k km inspection but they didn't have the instructions to fix it so far.
They did tell me it was better not strain the chain to much(power start, wheelie, etc.) but it should be fine.

Got an NC700X in the UK, cleaned and lubed chain 250 miles ago didn't notice anything wrong (although I was not aware there was a problem). Had a phone call from my dealer Tuesday 9/10 asking if I could bring bike in for them to inspect. Went on 10/10, it had an RK chain so it was replaced. Rode out again 1 hour later.
Thats what I call service !
dl- How do you power start /wheelie this bike?

South African owner here. Love the bike. Chain being replaced on Monday, the whole issue is being handled very well. As you said, these things happen, no biggie in my mind.
