Wigan Yamaha And Used Cars.

Blog Date - 14 September 2011

Oh it's all going so wrong.  I was hoping the blog would be a positive place, full of useful information gleaned from my days thoughts, travels and experiences.  It doesn't seem to be the case.  I guess I'm starting to realise why old men become grumpy old men.  Everything's changing, everything's different and nothing's quite what it used to be any more.  Why is it that the older we get the more stuck-in-the-mud we get.

I remember a young 31 year old man, just recovering from a very serious motorcycle accident, buying his first bike after being left for dead when his last one was written off.  That young man went to what was still a relatively new shop called Wigan Yamaha to purchase a very shiny, low mileage CMX 250.  This small comfortable bike allowed that young man to get back onto two wheels without scaring himself witless.  That young man was pleased with his purchase and pleased with the deal he got from the friendly chap.  That was when that young man finally felt complete again after 7 months of hell.

Of course that young man was me, just under 9 years ago.  I went back again today.  I wasn't entirely sure I'd come to the right place at first.  There was the shop but outside was a long line of used cars for sale.  My initial reaction was that the bike shop had shut and been taken over by a car dealer.  I curiously peered into the window and to my relief I saw it was full of bikes.  Why the devil would a bike shop have a line of used cars for sale outside?  I have often seen the odd car at a bike dealers, usually there's been some kind of exchange agreed and the bike dealer's just shifting that car to recoup his money.  But a line of cars just made me think I'd taken a wrong turn somewhere.   There were a handful of bikes outside too, but none seemed for sale, non displayed a price tag.

Inside normal service was resumed.  Wigan Yam have quite a range of brand new bikes on sale and a very reasonable collection of used bikes too.  There's not much in the way of bike gear like jackets, this shop seems to focus more on the bikes than the accessories.  I spent a while perusing the various machines and made enquiries about the various prices and the costs of servicing a new machine.  There's a part of me that still wants a new bike, but there's a bigger part that can't justify the initial depreciation and the cost of the services required to keep the warranty.  Maybe one day when I'm rich and famous I'll splash out.  One day.
