Beware - Amazing Deals!

Blog Date - 04 May 2017

Cor blimey gov'nah! Halfords has a promotion on their tubs of basic 10W-40 oil. That's great news for me as this is what my long suffering CBF125 has been lubricated with for the last 55,000 miles. Yes yes yes you can lecture me about using a car oil and not a motorcycle oil, about using a cheap oil rather than a high end oil and you're free to point out that synthetic oil is so much better than "semi synthetic" (which is marketing speak for mineral oil with additives).

You can mention all this but I'd have to ask...do you have a 125cc motorcycle with 63,000 miles on the clock?

The stand showing a big sign for the oil at £15 per tub, and the tubs belowOoooh ooooh ooooh a BARGAIN!!

I'm looking at these tubs of oil for £15. Sweeeet! Normally they're like £21 or £22, I'm gonna buy 10 tubs! Waaaaait a minute, steady on boy, these are 4 litre tubs. Cheeky swines.

So 4 litres at £15 per litre equates to £3.75 per litre. If this were a 5 litre tub it would cost £18.75. If you think I'm doing this in my head you're wrong, I've got my mobile phone out in calculator mode. But still £18.75 for 5 litres is a saving over the usual price. Not quite as impressive a saving but a saving none-the-less. Maybe I'll just buy a few tubs.

But what's this? They also have in stock the 5 litre tubs...and these are priced at £17 per tub. That's a saving of £4 over the usual price and a saving of £1.75 over the promotional price. That'll be 2 tubs of 5 litres as £17 a tub please. That's should keep the 125 happy for a while.

The 5 litre tubs with a small sign stating £17 per tub of oilBetter value per litre but no big promotional stand here.

After doing the grocery shopping I always leave the supermarket with a headache. Trying to work out if buying 2 smaller products that are on offer are cheaper than the big one.

Then just to keep you on your toes they make 2 of the smaller ones cheaper than a big one.

Life is very complicated when you are tight with money!

Stuart.

I'm SO tight with money Stuart I squeak when I walk.

Human nature it seems is to try every trick in the book to make a penny Borsuk, so you're right, this restores my faith in human nature too.

The filter has arrived along with some metal thing that is clamped onto the filter dont know what that it. I have purchased some oil and of course I have gone in for the castrol Power 1 10w-30 4T also from halfords the princely sum of £ 10 per litre. I need 2.7 litres for the oil change I have been told.

I simply could not bear to think my bike had the wrong oil in it. Any left over oil I can use to oil the hinges on my safety deposit boxs. Or I might let you have the 0.3 litres to treat your 125.

Im not sure if I have all the relevant tools but ive found my socket wrench thingy set.

Ive also been sent a tin of chain oil.

I'll bring the appropriate tools for an oil filter change and a chain adjustment Pete. The biggest tool will be myself of course.

At £10 per litre the oil should change itself. I buy 5 litres of Motorcycle oil on internet for £18.50 Inc delivery. There are cheaper but this is from a UK oil distributer, in Yorkshire I think so I know where to send my boys if it is bogus.

For Ren, Wilko do 5l of 20W-50 mineral car oil for £12.50 and that is the normal price. None of this special price dearer than the normal price business. I know it is not a winter oil but the frequency you must change your oil at then is would probably do for a spring to autumn oil.

I wanted the best oil money could buy. If Im going to change the oil I should giver the honda the best stuff. £ 10 doesnt seem to much but of course its all relative to earnings I wonder if it will run any better on the expensive stuff.

I think I have figured out that the metal bit on the oil filter is an oil filter removal tool. Cool it has a large nut in the middle and clamps onto the filter. So once we have changed the oil you can have the metal bit.

I have also got a 12volt usb/adapter for you from the same guy. It may be handy to have a usb port on your bike. Let me know what time your coming.

£12.50 for 5 litres! Pah my local Tesco will sell me 5 litres for £8. Admittedly it is olive oil but a saving is a saving and my engine will be fine. Bike smells lovely when it overheats too.

It's gonna be like Christmas going to Pocketpete's place!! I'll message you a time Pete, we don't want everyone turning up at your place cos I ain't much of one for sharing.

Ah I can smell the heady mix of engine oil and leg of lamb maybe with a quick wiff of wd40 thrown in.. Yum Yum. Maybe a quick ride out over saddleworth or the snake after lunch to see how the expensive oil does Im sure its going to add miles to my engine.
