Bogger's Guess The Bikes
Date Received - 30 March 2020
Idea From Bogger - Words By Ren
PLEASE - Don't post your answers in the comments until after Sunday 19th April.
So Bogger emailed me with a picture or two. "Guess The Bikes" he suggested, maybe a little challenge? So yes, why not share the pain with the already long suffering BAT readers. There are, apparantly 5 bikes (motorcycles not bicycles) in this shot but one of them is in bits.

I suppose this is the downside to being a lazy halfwit. I'd add a picture of my shed but it's too dark right now.

This was probably about 2005 at a VJMC event.
It was an unrestored 1977 CB750f2.

Oh yeah......but how can we decide on the day date when every flaming day is just the same.
I'll consider myself told. But I'm sure it's a R..........

Silly boy. Will someone get Upt' a calendar so he knows which date this particular Groundhog Day is. And yes one of them does begin with "R", "Raleigh", probably the pushiron on the wall.

I guess it's ok to post comments now ? Visually from the screen and bars a BMW RS airhead of some capacity... An SH300 . The one on the shelf possibly a Yamaha Townmate? The other scoot with the weird shaped rear light I'm not sure and the bike under the cover I'm not sure , and yes I have trawled posts using Bogger as a search but I gave up....

Searching again reveals possibly a V90 Yamaha , the swingarm with what looks like a driveshaft in it kind of confused me ( easily done)

Bogger said :-
I used to have a V90, but that got sold on a year or so back. The V90 was a two stroke and had a chain drive, it was the T80 four stroke that had the shaft drive. One of the guesses was spot on the other was close.

The one with the Givi top box and the "CYM" sticker is the new C125 Cub. Deffo and BMW R60/60/100 in burgundy. We know he owns the SH300 from the review so that'll be in the foreground. But what lies under the cover and what is in bits on the shelf?
The swingarm with the driveshaft is in fact the forks off a C50/70/90 - look at the leading linkage housing at the opposite end of the burgundy fork, and there's a leading link next to that in blue. Yeah the mudguards with the squared off flared ends are from a slightly later version.
As for what is under the cover - absofrikkinlutely no idea.
22/04/2020 07:25:08 UTC
Bogger said :-
Under the cover is a younger relation to the old big bike which is indeed an R80RT. I'll give you a clue. Lozenger!
You are spot on with the new C125 Cub. The one in bits is a 12v C90. None of the bits on show are actually for that bike. I reckon I've enough parts to build at least 5 more C90's. I've 7 spare engines for them.I am a hoarder.
So it's just the last bike under the cover then.

I've read in a couple of reviews now, that a part of the bike is oddly shaped. Like a lozenge.
Not my words but it is apt.

So it's a BMW 1200. It has not got the FULL barn door screen and from the image it appears to have either handlebar mounted mirrors or perhaps screen mounted with a narrower screen between. GRRRRR!

It can only be a 1200ST or cruiser if it's a short production run and as the ST is a hex head it must be the 1200C or some derivative...

I think the headlight was the challenging part hence folks have come up with variations on a theme.
Not sure any of them work that well though. Picture of one attempt.
I think a few manufacturers have struggled with half faired bikes, some of the Harlies and Beemers...... Well only a mother would love them.

The headlight on the ST may have issues but apparently unlike Italian bikes it was designed with function over form , supposedly one of the best motorcycle headlamps , maybe Bogger can confirm.

The headlamp is excellent. The much derided servo brakes are superb. Great feel and massive stopping power for very little effort on the lever. I really like the design of the bike as a complete package. However panniers and top boxes are eye wateringly expensive, even second hand.

The LED headlight on the CB500X is, erm, "feeble". On low beam it's about the same as my 35 watt incandescent on the 125. Highbeam is like low beam, you can barely tell you've flicked the switch. If ever there was a bike designed for aftermarket lights.

I looked at an ST years ago but the servo brakes put me off , it's not that there's anything wrong with them( servo brakes) per se , but why the complexity and expense ( and the poor to non existent residual braking when the servo fails) when I have a 20 yr old BM which has superb 2 finger braking like all the post servo models?
