Summer's Here!

Headline - "PHEW! What a Scorcher"

I'm sure that's what the papers will be saying. It has actually been dry and even warm this weekend. After the winter it is a most strange sensation, the act of tipping the motorcycle into a corner and feeling weird things like grip rather than slithering around everywhere. It's surreal not having on 2 jumpers and thick pants. How peculiar it is to unzip my jacket a little to let the warm air circulate. 

I actually forget. It takes me a while to re-learn how to corner quickly. Those first few dry bends can be scary until I can refresh my memory about how well a motorcycle tyre sticks to dry tarmac. It takes a while to reprogram my mind regarding corner positions at higher speeds. Then I have to re-evaluate how hard I can brake before the bend, to feel the forks drop hard and the front tyre dig in. A little experimentation helps refresh my mind to the idea of accelerating hard too. It takes a while before the grin factor is back.

Once I've refreshed my memory into high speed mode it is immediately spoiled. Of course the problem with nice weather is that everyone else is out. All those natty little back roads with your favourite bends that you've gently wobbled around in the rain and the frost are no longer empty. They're filled with slow cars stuffed with ageing cake eaters or screaming kids. Other bikers scare you senseless by thinking they're moto-gp riders and apexing onto your side of the road. I've seen some scary nonsense these last couple of days.

Anyhow, it's been a lovely weekend and now it's Monday. The forecast for the next few days is "Sunny spells and showers", all bases covered then. I do hope you all made the most of this weekend, that might be all the summer we get this year. Lets hope not eh. If it is nice though, do me a favour and keep off my favourite roads...RIGHT!
