First Outing On My Bike - Aug 2013

It's a warm sunny day, great biking weather. And guess what I got myself a bike to go biking on yeeeahh. So the day after passing my CBT I am off for my first bimble.

My fellow new learner Kath is coming out to play to on her 125 and Ren will be leading the adventure an his 125. Bringing up the rear will be Rick and his loud wide handled mean machine. No body is going to get past those handle bars so us learners will be safe tucked in between the two guys.

I am excited but nervous about my first real bike ride. The plan is to call into MCO where I bought my bike and enquire about booking it in for its first service. Then off for a wander to Croston.

I do the usual stalling and not so smooth stopping along the way to the bike shop. Corners scare me and traffic lights and junctions set my heart racing. But we all arrive at the shop safe and sound and I get a real buzz out of parking my own bike up in MCO's carpark. Chas one of the staff there comes over to ask how I am doing and if I am enjoying it so far.  I reply I am still nervous and that I have managed to scratch my shiny new bike. After a drink and a chat we ride on.

I like Croston it is a pretty little village and as the sun shines and the birds tweet in the passing trees I finally begin to relax just enough to actually begin to enjoy the act of riding. We stop for a drink at the very pleasant newly refurbished Wheatsheaf. It is warm enough to sit outside and I prefer to do that so I can gaze with pride at my bike parked up. If feels so surreal to be sat chatting and sipping coke with a bike that I own, I bike I actually rode here parked besides me. I know I have rode it, it is not a dream it is there in all its shiny blackness before me eyes but even so I still can not quite believe that it and I are actually here for real.

When it is time to leave I feel a thrill about climbing onto my bike even if my only witness to my new biker chick status is one man and his dog. I sure hope I do not wobble and fall off though. The bike is light enough for me to push backwards easily and I actually manage to ride off with what may pass to the uninitiated eye as a fair bit of ease and skill. (I stayed up ok.)

I begin to get tired towards the end of our trip and I notice a few more little hic-ups appearing again. Getting over tired is something that definitely effects my concentration levels and ability quite a lot. So it is something I need to keep in mind and be aware of. Hopefully in time my stamina levels will improve and when one is not clinging on at times for dear life and thinking over ever little move one has to make it may also become a little less exhausting.

It has been a great first trip out. Great weather and great company. Well chuffed I am.
