3rd Bike lesson - Ren's Bike - Aug 2013

This being a Monday morning and not Sunday evening we are stuck for suitable venues to go and have a go on the bike.

We decided a local car park might be quiet. However even at an early hour it was not as quiet as we hoped and already there were cars parked and dog walkers and cyclists about.

Well we were here now so I decided to give it a go anyway. I sat on the bike and I felt nervous. I do not know why. I had done nothing different but even though I tried to will the feeling away it was not shifting.

I made a hesitant start but was soon doing a mini circuit but I felt far from comfortable. Dogs running about brought me to a stop while I waited for the them to be rounded up and put into their dog walkers van.

So off again. I stop on the tiniest of inclines to let a cyclist pass and I cannot get started again. I can not control the throttle and clutch to get a hill start. I am getting frustrated with myself now.  What is up with me? Why am I so nervous today and why is it all so hard? The bf comes over to offer advice and encouragement but I still can't do it. I think he is losing patience with me and I am losing patience with myself. Eventually I do it but what a big fuss over a little hump.

I do a few more circuits to try and calm myself and not to end the ride on a bum note. But I am actually glad to get off today. I just did not enjoy it. It was a battle, a grit my teeth and try to like it day.  Oh dear, chin up girl it may just be an off day?

Dont worry sharon. Not unusual to have an off day even when youve been rideing a while. Everything will suddenly click into place all at once over the clutch and throttle thing. Remember you can rev as much as you want or need. Its controlling the clutch while giving the revs that make it move. Kath was doing u turns with her eyes shut but couldnt do one for shit on her cbt so your not the only one. Keep at it sharon

Oh Sharon, it sounds just like when you start learning to drive a car. Just when you think you are getting it, you have a day like the above and your confidence just takes a nosedive! I'm sure it's just the same with the bike and next lesson you will be fine! Keep going girl x
