The Weather Makes Me A Liar

Blog Date - 02 October 2011

After my previous missive about how the weather was turning towards the dark and dismal winter, last week the weather has improved.  Considerably.  Suffice to say we've probably had the best weather of the year in the last week of September.  Weird.

When I was writing I thought the weather may stop raining enough for a little sun to pop through but it would still be cold.  Nope.  This last week has been nothing but sweaty nights, warm sunny days and filled with me complaining that it's too damn hot.  Cold in the evenings?  No, even the cold-blooded gf was wandering about with nothing on but a stringy top and jeans or a skirt.  There's been images in the papers of beaches full of burnt Brits and some of the plants are starting to flower again.

Of course today, Sunday, the weather here in Manchester has turned.  It's not been cold at all but the rain has come back to make me feel at home again.  However yesterday the gf and myself dragged ourselves out of bed and made the effort to get out on the bike and make the most of a beautiful day.  We visited Race Leathers at Darwen, a small but well stocked and friendly place, Took time to saunter at a most gentle pace through the Trough of Bowland, stopped for tea and biscuits at Slaidburn then made our way back home along the motorway.  It was splendid, warm enough to keep the gf smiling like a Cheshire cat, yet not so warm as to make me uncomfortable in my bike gear.

So there we are.  Just when you thought the only way is colder, wetter and darker, the Great British weather throws - for once - a welcome curve ball.
