Death in Winter

It never rains...

3 weeks ago a chap at work died whilst riding his bike to work.  Neil Cooper.  52 years old, not a hardcore biker but a daily commuter on his 125, and in the few months I knew him he seemed a good chap.  That came as a shock.  I know what it's like already to say goodbye to someone then never see them again.  Yet it's not an experience I wished to repeat again.  Still I said goodnight to Neil as usual at 1630 and parted company at the traffic lights.  The next morning on his trip to work he was knocked from his 125 and I'm told he died at the scene.

It seems it wasn't Neil's fault, but I'm in no position to apportion blame, that's for the authorities.  I went to his funeral today.  It was as you'd expect it to be, not pleasant but well attended and nothing untoward happened.  I'll remember Neil, I'm sure his wife, family and friends will miss him a lot more.

Then when I got home I heard that one of my business group members committed suicide this weekend.  John was also a sometime biker with a Bandit 12.  I know John had a lot on his plate with caring for family, work, business and gosh only knows what else was happening in his life.  I reckon I'll be attending another funeral sometime soon.

These things happen.  I know, I've seen them happen.
